The University of Iowa College of Education’s Teaching and Learning Department and the Iowa Reading Association have teamed up for the Second Annual Southeastern Iowa Short Story and Poetry Writing Contest to celebrate the amazing young writers in the Iowa City area and beyond. Like the “Write Out Loud” competition that is part of the City of Literature’s One Book Two Book children’s literature festival, this is another opportunity for young writers to share their work. In this case, submissions are taken from students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
First-place winners at each grade level will be invited for an evening celebration on May 12 at Lindquist Center, University of Iowa. Teachers and families of the winning students will be notified regarding details.
There are specific guidelines for the short story and poetry contests related to how the pieces are to be submitted and how they will be judged.
The deadline for the competition is April 6. Students can submit their entries here.
