Write Out Loud submissions due November 15

One Book Two Book’s 2014 expanded student writing project, “Write Out Loud,” celebrates creative expression in new and exciting formats.  Students in grades 1-8 are encouraged to submit one page of creative writing (narrative, poem, or graphic novel) by November 15 in order to participate and be eligible for prizes.

This year the festival begins with the Friday night “Once Upon A Time” kick-off celebration to recognize stories written and performed by children from the Iowa City area. One student selected by each elementary and junior high school in the Iowa City area will read. The celebration also will feature our keynote speaker for the weekend, bestselling children’s author and illustrator, Loren Long.

Saturday follows with a Writing Jam for junior high students and a fun-filled day of activities celebrating children’s literature at the Sheraton, along with ongoing presentations at the Iowa City Public Library featuring an exciting lineup of children’s book authors and illustrators.

Sunday’s showcase event, “Up and Coming Young Authors”, is an additional celebration that acknowledges students from the entire corridor who participate in “Write Out Loud”.
