On the Fly: Writers on Writing

On the Fly: Writers on Writing

Writers on the Fly is a video interview series curated by the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature organization. Conceived in 2010, the series features interviews with writers who either live in or are visiting the Iowa City area. Authors are asked a series of questions – some consistent across all interviews, others tailored to the person in front of the camera – and also are often asked to read briefly from their work.

The project was a partnership between the City of Literature and Humanities Iowa in its first year, and currently is funded through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The interviews are filmed by Ben Hill.

The Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit that manages the city’s designation as a City of Literature. Iowa City became the third City of Literature in the world in November 2008. It now is one of seven Cities of Literature around the world, and part of the growing UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
