Iowa City Book Festival

The Iowa City Book Festival is an annual celebration of books, reading and writing presented by the University of Iowa Libraries and the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature. This year the festival included readings, discussions, and demonstrations by various authors, illustrators and book making experts.

Saturday afternoon the City of Literature hosted a Scholastic Book Sale to benefit the Hawkeye Readers Program. Thanks to our volunteers and customers who helped Hawkeye Readers bring University of Iowa athletes into local classrooms to read to students and share their favorite books.

The third day of the festival was the Day in the City of Literature, when local businesses of all kinds throughout Iowa City participated with readings, special activities all day.

The festival also featured a screening of the “City of Literature Documentary,” a film about the history of creative writing in Iowa, from its frontier beginnings to the recognition of Iowa City as a UNESCO City of Literature.
